New Zealand: Rare Red Warnings Issued as Powerful Wind Storm Rips Through Country

A powerful storm with winds up to 96 mph swept across New Zealand's North and South Islands, causing massive disruption that left around 90,000 homes without power and forced flight cancellations. Authorities issued rare red wind warnings as the storm ripped roofs off houses, knocked down trees and power lines, and tragically resulted in at least one fatality in Wellington.

US: Rowena Fire Forces Evacuations in Oregon, Emergency Act Issued

The Rowena Fire, a growing wildfire burning in Wasco County, Oregon, near the Columbia River Gorge and the border with Washington, destroyed multiple homes, forcing hundreds of homes to evacuate while thousands were under evacuation advisories and warnings. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek issued an Emergency Conflagration Act on Wednesday, June 11.
